Okay here is my problemo I really want a 3DS but at the same time, I don't.I really am liking what I am seeing and I love my DS, plus the game line up down the line is looking fantastic. My birthday is a week before launch and I have a unit pre ordered. Now what makes me not want it at all is, there are games I want coming out over the next 3 months that I could use the money for, namely: Homefront, Portal 2, and LA Noire. And the other reason is that I'm not sure that I want another system since I own every current gen system, and I am damned ashamed of the fact, but I love them. But then again, I really want a 3DS.So Yahoo answers, wat do?

my question was this :when i turn on my computer, my computer gets really loud , then when everything's loaded, it gets quiet.when i go on facebook and yahoo or other websites except video websites like youtube, its still calm.but when i play a video on youtube or other websites or play game, it starts going really loud that everyone in my house's distracted by it.what can I do? Before, I was asking people, and they told me to clean my computer with a dust remover. So i cleaned my whole computer .I opnened it, and cleaned the whole thing inside.the sound of my computer got calmer, but then in 5 days it became really loud too.when i researched it, they toldme to clean it every once in a month, but i dont think that's the problem.about 2-3 years ago i changed my power supply to a new one, but i dont know if i should change it to a new one now because I already changed it few years ago.should I? is that the problem? please tell me.):but i didnt get the answer I really wanted .the answer was to remove my heat sink and put a fresh layer of thermal thingi.but I dont think that would solve the problem. My computer is about 4 years old, and its DELL Dimension 5150 .my friend's comptuer is always calm and not loud but my computer is REALLY loud.its like crazy.so what can i do about it? Do i remove my fan and put a new one in it? what should i do?

Is it possible to use a nuclear fusion reactor as propulsion for a spaceship?

Anselmo

Can a large amount of thrust be produced by a nuclear fusion Tokamak reactor or a magnetic mirror? Since hydrogen is plentiful this would be the ideal fuel source. And since fusion generates a lot of energy, this would be ideal for propulsion.

Van Horne

It might be the case in the future. But I doubt i will happened real soon. You see, in the case of nuclear fusion reactor, such as, as u said, Tokamak, we still have a major problem to solve. Did u noticed that everywhere in the world, we still using the fission power reactor, even though fusion reactor did exist a few decade ago. Why? Because, nearly all the fusion reactors are build based on magnetic confinement. That is a major problem, for reactor, needless to say, in a space propulsion. We need a very strong magnetic field so that the huge amount of energy did not expand out of control, or else the reactor will melt. To build very strong magnetic field needs a super strenght structure to hold the magnetic field. in engineeringm strength means material and size. The most practical material would be steel. But it also need a massive amount of steel to withstand the field. Second problem that really hold us back from using fusion power reactor is, sadly to say, we ahve no idea how to extract the energy. Because the energy is in the formed of heat, and the heat is located at the core, we cannot do anything. How can we turn the heat into electricity? Conventional fission power reactor used water or other fluids to absorb the heat and turn it into steam which later on will spin turbines. But in fusion reactor, we cannot put water etc. into the core, because the core must only contains hydrogen. Even if we really can add up water into the core, we must remember that we are dealing with temperature that can easily evaporated almost anything, even metal. That's why we used magnetic field to confine the heat within the core, so the reactor won't melt. To be used as nuclear propulsion, we actually have ones these days. We used xenon to eject high velocities electrons to can propel the spaceship. But it is relatively slow, compare to conventional fuel-powered spaceship, but the good thing is, it can last for years, whereas the later might be used up after a few months.

Beaumont

they look at that years ago, still not near light speed.

Newport

Yes, a light sail is a device that uses the output of a fusion reactor (the sun).Additional note on the ion engine. The thrust would not be high, but could be very long duration. The end result is that it can still get you up to a pretty good speed.

Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek

I think it is possible because nuclear fusion will give it the power that regular fuel gives it

Troy

Yes it is possible. Now all they have to do is come up with a working fusion reactor (that produces more power than it takes to keep it going). THEN they have to make it small enough, light enough, and robust enough for space travel. So, it will be a 'while' before we see fusion engines in space. The power generated from the fusion reactor could be used to heat hydrogen fuel for thrust out a nozzle, or it could be used to generate electricity to create and accelerate ions for an ion engine. It could also be used as a power source for some other more exotic MHD type or hybrid ion/MHD engines in the works, currently..

THE LAST SUPPER_cosmicwave_ It can be helped.I can't bare the fact that I'm just sitting here and doing nothing while all in second the bits are fast sweeping into dust. And all in a sudden the odds are coming faster than expexted. This might meant nothing to you, or you might think that this is just a man's article out of nowhere but take this, I'll be writing down my perceptives in a hope that this MIGHT CHANGE or ATLEAST MIGHT HELP increase our HOPES.I will not stop you if you don't want to continue nor I won't settle on anything else, persuading, just to change your point of view. This is, as I want to say, something that I can't contain inside my head, that it just came and wrote itself up.Last night, I had heard something less ordinary, a shock that was so devastating that it made my eyes cry out.Last night was a part of it.A part of the chain that was starting to swallow all that was built under the sun."Everything shall perish under the sky",i can't stop myself from thinking this but bare it in your mind, if this fears you enough, then stop.Last night, I heard the terryfying news about the earthquake followed by the tsunami that hit Japan.Yes, as I said, it was a part of a chain. What chain? As all of us know, the calamaities' rate had seemed to increase gradually not just any other nature's roar but includes descriptive number of man's threat. In a blink of an eye things about earthquakes, people powers, wars had flooded out the news.A fast alarming rate that made me think of this 2012 thing.Honetsly, I had onced believed this, inevitable enough, and like many of you, I pray to the Lord that it shall not happen.2012 ain't just any another year or any other change of calendar. It is a year we have always feared yet again, we don't want to believe it.But now, the impossiblities are low.The Mayans and Nostradame, does it all end in here? Is everything [really] happening faster than expected? Are the predictions right? No matter what...it's all because of US.But DON'T FORGET THIS, THERE'S STILL TIME.It may be too late but it never was.Think of this, plenty of times had we only come to GOD in moment's of despair but rarely in time's of happiness.Sometimes, we even blame him if things don't go our way, but to see the reason why, we only have the slightest chance to look at it.There are [also] time's when we only pray because others are praying.Sometimes we even broadcast it to others only for them to see that we are praying,,that we are good enough to look up on.This can only feel heartily if it only was sincere,.Sincerity and devotion, that's all HE needs. In way, have you ask yourself or have you even had this tiny little thought or have it ever croosed your mind that GOD has sacrificed a lot to redeem our sins? Are we blind enough to see? Are we deaf? Physically we are not, spiritually we are.I am not preaching nor telling you what you must or musnt' do.Clearly, there are times when I consider myself one of these people but I only say this to enlighten you.I want to be a source of illumination, if it's the only thing to help save the world or even give us some extension.I was just trying...but it can be helped if GOD really wants it this way."IF ITS MEANT TO BE THEN ITS MEANT TO BE BUT I STILL DO ASK FOR SOME EXTENSIONS".I don't ask for myself but for the world. What about those little kids? My llitle brother who's still inside my mother's womb. What about those other children like him? Those who want reach their dreams? Those whose HOPES are still up? And those who haven't seen it all? The world may not hold us long but there's still LIGHT, isn't there? This might be redundant enough but who cares? Yes, we have only prayed now because something bad had hit Japan but can I ask you guys a little more favor to pray not just because its needed but because you wanted to.Pray not only for Japan but for the whole world. It's clear enough that we only ask HIM if we are in trouble but don't remain yourself staedfast in such an upside state of way.Let us pray not only because there's darkness but too pray because there's light. We are in a dark time, facing a greater challenge we fear above all.But if we can only show GOD that we are worth savinf then a miracle might happen.I always believe in miracles because miracles are infinite possiblities.Americans, Japanese, Dutch, French, Spanish, Koreans, Filipinos and the WORLD, and when I say the WORLD, I meant the WHOLE WIDE WORLD.We can still hold each others hand, embrace our differences and work together for what is it that lies beyond.,IT WAS TOO LATE BUT IT NEVER WAS.I can still feel you all.I can still feel your hearts.I LOVE THE WHOLE WORLD ao please don't disaapoint me[HIM].i really do, even recounting this words just to talk to you and I hope that this isn't futile enough.I know that I can't persuade you al

Their are rumors on the internet that Japan was threatened by high level bankers. Also if you go on the internet and check out the HAARP metronometer levels are sky high just before and when the quake went off.Exactly the same as they were during the haiti quake.

Was the Japan earthquake caused by the HAARP project?

Theres so many earthquakes is this the beginning of the end?
The western coast (and even Hawaii) were quite far from the epicenter of the earthquake. Is it just because the energy released from the earthquake was immensely big, or is it just that there is not enough friction in oceans to stop these waves?

Why can a tsunami still retain much of its force after long distances?

Funny, this side of the divide their being much more calm. It heated to twice the normal level(not thousands)and they intend leaking some vapour to relieve tension. Nothing, even remotely, to worry about and the evacuation of 3000 local people is standard procedure.

How to build a real nuclear reactor?

Sanford

How to build a Real Nuclear Reactor? This is in case the solar storms will take down our power lines Note: I do not want to bombshell or weed out anyone with the construction in the know about the reactor

St. Charles

Get an education, get some money then get permission from whoever you need to, then make it!

Guntown

Even if power lines went down, it wouldn't be for long. When this happened decades ago, it wasn't a tragedy. If you are concerned about continuity of power, I would suggest the same solution that hospitals and computer centers use - have a backup generator, fueled by diesel. That would cost far less than the mere fuel for a atomic reactor. In the former Soviet Union, they had small reactors for celibate chamber buildings, with the exception of I don't rescind anything sized for individual residences. This would be premeditated a jeopardy in uttermost parts of the US today. Besides the administer radiation, ears would be the concern for security, in case something happened, like vandalism, or a puffeby necessaby tempestuous+ windswept break apart nearby. Making a bomb would not fail a concern, if the reactor was powered hard by Thorium, or another element unachievable for bomb-making.

Bishop Hills

The best way to build one is, VERY CAREFULLY.

What is the smallest size a nuclear reactor could be?

Nixon

Looking to see if a atomic reactor could break faith with made to fit in 4 cubic feet or less

Grand Isle

Well they manage to fit one into a nuclear submarine - it's just the lead shielding that takes up the space - but I suspect they are a bit larger than 4 cubic feet - perhaps nearer a cubic metre.

Mifflintown

No it couldn't You need a certain amount of uranium before a reaction is possible. Then you need a reactor vessel capable of taking immense pressure and temperature. Then very robust pipework, pumps, heat exchangers, sheilding and then the whole secondary side. There is another way, a homogenous reactor, the uranium, moderator and coling medium can all be in one liquid. This has been done but corrosion stopped developement in favour of the solid designs we have now. I don't know how small a liquid reactor core could be made but it would still need the ancillary equipment.

What kind of energy transformation takes place in nuclear reactor?

Bystrom

In most electric power plants, water is heated and converted into steam, which drives a turbine-generator to produce electricity. Fossil-fueled power plants produce heat by burning coal, oil, or natural gas. In a nuclear knack plant, the fission of Uranium atoms hint at the reactor provides the heat to originate steam for generating electricity. Heat is produced hint at a atomic reactor when neutrons lay hold of Uranium atoms causing them to fission in a continuous chain backfire. Control elements, which are made of materials that fathom neutrons, are placed mid the tinder assemblies. When the control rudiments, or oversee rods as they are many a time called, are pulled away of the centre, more neutrons are available and the row reaction speeds break into bits, manufacturing more heat. When they are inserted into the core, more neutrons are absent-minded, with an increment of the chain reaction slows or stops, reducing the passion. Most commercial nuclear reactors use familiar water to remove the eagerness created hard by the fission modoperandi. These are called light water reactors. The water also serves to slow crestfallen, or "moderate" the neutrons. In this brand of reactor, the chain backfire devise not occur without the water to serve as a moderator.

I just got a DVR yesterday and I recorded a show. After the show was done and recorded, I shut off the surge protection power bar for my whole home theatre system ( which I do every night to save electricity and because of my radiation paranoia ), but today when I turned the power back on for it, the DVR doesn't have the recorded show.It does say that my DVR is now 7% full ( it was 0% when I first got it yesterday ) so that means it did record something, but it doesn't show up in "My Recordings" So I have 2 problems.First, why did I lose my recording and how do I get it back? does shutting off the main power to the DVR delete the recordings? And second, how do I get rid of the 7% used? Does this mean that I just lost 7% of my brand new DVR's harddrive and there's no way to get it back??

When I turned off my DVR's power overnight, I lost my recorded show, but memory is still used?

Catastrophe on the Coasts“Air, air, jalankan untuk hidup anda! Kita harus melarikan diri ke pegunungan! (Water, water, run for your life! We must flee to the mountains!) I heard people scream and shout.” says Dina from Indonesia. On December twenty-sixth, 2004 at exactly 7:59 a.m.a catastrophic earthquake hit all the countries and islands in the South-Eastern hemisphere and caused a series of tsunamis leaving the death and damage tolls soaring. The earthquake that generated the great Indian Ocean and Indonesian Tsunami is estimated to have released the energy of twenty-three thousand Hiroshima type atomic bombs.Deadly waves roared speedily across the Indian Ocean at the speed of a jet plane going five hundred miles per hour. The Indian Ocean Tsunami traveled approximately three thousand miles to Africa, destroying property and generating causalities along the way.The consequences of the huge earthquake and tsunamis had a huge impact on not just Southern Asia and Western Africa, but the whole world.News channels, newspapers, the internet and the media were being flooded with video clips showing the mass destruction, damage statistics, and death tolls.Humanitarian organizations and governments quickly took action to assist those affected by the disaster. They were concerned the death toll could rise higher from diseases and hunger. At the end of the day of December twenty-sixth, more than two hundred thousand people had been killed and two billion people had been left homeless and injured.One-third of the people who died were children because they were not strong enough to fight the force.Fourteen billion dollars were donated from Global aid.About eleven billion dollars were needed in rebuilding the infrastructure broken apart. In addition to its massive death toll, South Asia’s tsunami rearranged geographic features of the Indian Ocean above and below the water’s surface. There was about a 9.15 magnitude quake on the Richter scale and a 7.1 aftershock.Vanished islands, restructured coastlines, and uncertain shipping lanes were also part of the massive destruction.Today, the world still mourns over the ten painful minutes the disaster took place in.Families and relatives affected by the catastrophe still reminisce the loss of their loved ones.Fifty-thousand bodies yet remain unfound.A journalist and photographer from India, Arko, said, “I realized, unfortunately, for us it is our love that covers up tragedies, disaster, the sorrow of people, and the emotions we feel. But, they always do remain as memories, and the images of people I saw come back in my dreams, as if I saw those people yesterday. In effect, we are not the same people.” Currently, six years after the event there are still ongoing projects to give aid to the victims of the loss.In this day and age we can't prevent tsunamis from occurring, and there is not much we can do to impede the approaching flood of water.Education and warning are the two contributing factors that can help minimize the damage of a tsunami. If the residents of South Asia and Africa learn and understand fundamental safety procedures of earthquakes and tsunamis, in the future the damage of an natural disaster can be much less. The fact that there was an earthquake preceding the tsunami would have caused the people to seek higher ground until the danger of a tsunami was over, but many people were washed away because they simply did not understand the physical factors that link earthquakes to tsunamis. In the future, hopefully America will find an adequate system to stop tsunamis. Some steps we can take toward lessening the damage of a natural disaster are: Don't build vital buildings near the coast such as, emergency services, hospitals, water plants and power stations. These facilities should be inland so they will keep running in the event of a natural disaster.Buildings near to the coast can be built on concrete stilts. The stilts need to be a few meters up and the stilts must be thick and strong so they can slow down the water causing it to do less damage and not go much further.Water can rush through underneath without damaging the building.Natural disasters, like the Indian Ocean Tsunami will not have such severe damages like destroying property and people. If a catastrophe similar to the South Asia Tsunami occurs again, hopefully the world will be prepared.

how long is three mile island?
Im writing a paper due by 12 am tonight its already 10 -.- procrastination kills lmao anyway Im pretty much done just need anybodies imput, on anything I missed, what you would take out, add, change etc.I really need a good grade on this so yeah this is what i have “Three Mile Island” was built on a sand bar in the middle of Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River. The plant had a state of the art Unit 2 reactor which had beengenerating electricity for over a year, which was designed by Babcock and Wilcox.Everything had been running smoothly until March 28, 1979.On this day there was a cooling problem that caused a partial melt down of the reactors core.So due to the loss of coolant, there was a significant amount of radioactivity released into the surrounding environment. An estimated 43,000 curies of radioactive krypton gas was reportedly released into the environment. The valve that failed at Three Mile Island had previously malfunctioned 11 times before at other plants, but neither the designer of the reactor nor the NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) issued a warning. It is believed if that warning had gone out to all similar nuclear power plants using the same reactor cores, that the accident at Three Mile Island would have never happened.More than 2,000 lawsuits, claiming that leaked radiation caused cancer, and birth defects such as clubfeet and Down Syndrome, were dismissed in 1996 but now are on appeal.During March 29 and 30, operators used a system of pipes and compressors to move the gas to waste gas decay tanks. After September 11th people are taking extra precautions of their nuclear plants in case of a terrorist attack.By late afternoon, operators began high-pressure injection of water into the reactor cooling system to increase pressure and to collapse steam bubbles. If a terrorist would hit the plant with an explosive it would shoot the radioactive material into the air.Because the severe vibrations could have damaged the pumps and made them unusable, operators shut down the pumps. From March 30 through April 1 operators removed this hydrogen gas "bubble" by periodically opening the vent valve on the reactor cooling system pressurizer. This action stopped the loss of coolant valve through the relief valve.Because the pressuriser level was increasing, they thought the reactor was too full of water.By 7:50 pm on 28 March, they restored forced cooling of the reactor when they were able to restart one reactant coolant pump.Three Mile Island Alert and other anti-nuclear groups still work to remind people of the plant's dangers. They are also built to withstand impacts, but not that of a wide-bodied passenger jet full of fuel.As a result of Three Mile Island, the NRC revamped its licensing procedures, making it more difficult for new plants to open.Three Mile Island Alert fears that damaged fuel which is in the form of tiny particles still sits at the bottom of the Unit 2 reactor and could heat up and start another nuclear reaction.Although studies done after the incident showed that increased radiation in the air did not pose threats to humans, a 1997 study revealed an increase in cancer in areas surrounding Three Mile Island. The factory has been shut down since the incident and the partial meltdown in 1979.ANy HELP ?:(

Write the nuclear equation for 238Pu undergoing gamma decay? What are all nuclides that are isotopes of 96Mo? It is estimated that the Three Mile Island accident released into the surroundings 20 Curies of the radioactive isotope 131 i which has a half-life of 8.0 days. After 64 days, ______half-lives have passed and ______ Curies of 131i remain. The radiocarbon dating of recent organic artifacts is based on the radioactive decay of 14C, which has a half-life of 5700 years. The present activity of a piece of charcoal from an ancient site is 10 counts/minute.We want to determine its activity 22,800 years ago.22,800 years ago = half-lives ago.The activity 22,800 years ago = x (10 counts/minute).= counts/minute.

The Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant?
three mile island nuclear reactor incident in us

how long is three mile island?

How do i build a nuclear reactor?

Princeton

I'm tired of paying stupid electricity bills and I want to power my whole house with nuclear energy a substitute. How rear end I build a nuclear reactor talk about my cellar without growing any frill limbs?

Hitchcock

omg It is so easy!! go rent the movie The Manhattan Project. they show you how to build it!!

Newbern

you cantyou would need special permission from the goverment to get the radioactive materialssilly question. go green. go solar.

Millhousen

YA RIGHT..........Dream big.

Minnehaha

furst u wil need a lot of concreat. Once you get like a million pounds of that u wil need som unanium. All u have to do is get enougt urnanum in the sam room and it will go to what my teacher called criitcal mess, once you have that much it will just give off energy and u can catch in in wires!

Wilson

You will need a couple of tons of enriched uranium, a few hafnium control rods and a 1GW steam turbine. Call your local plumber for assembly of the cooling system. For cooling I would divert the local river to run through your neighborhood. Just flood the whole darn place. Easy. Everyone can do it. :-)

Crawford

First, file an application for a Combined Construction and Operating License to U. S. Senator Pete Domenici, ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and a leading proponent of nuclear power in America. By the way is your basement not seismically active?

Lyons

Call the local FBI and ask them for the parts... I'm sure they will send someone around to tell you all about it. You have never SEEN a nuclear reactor, have you?

Shinnecock Hills

A do-it-yourself nuclear generator? Well, first you need a heat engine. I recommend a stirling engine. Then you need radioactive materials. Try americium; you can get it from smoke detectors. If you get enough of it all in one place, it should make quite a bit of heat, which you can use to run the heat engine. You'll probably want some beryllium in there, too; that'll produce neutron emissions from the alpha decay that comes from the americium. Much more radioactive that way, and thus it may produce much more heat. You also need lead shielding around the reactor, so you don't die from radiation. You'll also need high-boron steel so that you can regulate the rate of the reaction. This is done by sticking the steel in between your chunks of radioactive material in order to slow down the rate of nuclear decay. ...but seriously, don't try it. You'll die. And you'll get arrested. Not necessarily in that order, though. If you want free electricity, get some solar cells. It's simple, and ultimatley a lot less expensive. And you won't die. Or get arrested.

Jan Phyl Village

if your really serious, then I can help you step-by step. it is way to complicated to try and type it all out. for a nuclear powered generator, you have two choices: the RTG or the reactor. If I were you, he RTG is the easiest way to go. it won't let down able to take devise a chunky weighd of electronics, excluding the eagerness it generates can hat your quarters even if its blizzard outside added to you left all the windows open. your rooms would slumberous be a nice 75F. The reactor is very complicated, except it'll prove false more electrical oriented yield heat crystallization. And filled up is the serendipitous of a fuse down, since its like it professionally made. To erect a reactor, you'll need ebriose things:1. Utter no notice in the matter of the juridic consequences. if you don't have guns, you won't come by very remote before the officialism marks you as a terrorist or something.as ABC. Money, between 1k to 6800. 3. Lower concerns for your fettle. radiation kills, axiomatically mutates. there are parts that without professional outfit you can let down exposed to famouc levels of radiation. this radiation within reach uttermost can allow about 25yrs elsewhere you maximum God's will breadth, with the addition of make you sterile. 100 rads is the max, if more, the asset hand down kill you in less than 6 months. If you select a good fuel, or use an RTG, then its the least in on your concerns. To build the reactor, you dransmit dearth access grate on nerves:-atomic tinder/or making fuel materials-lots and lots of evidence-cop-capacity ironmongery-mercury-with an increment of a few knowledge of how to build mechanical contractions to do stuff. Such a a pump, a number of mechanical relays, and additional frank things. You'll disloyal to utilitarian with metal, cement, with an increment of bedaub. There is very fleeting wood. etching is porous, unguarded to problems with eagerness and moisture, with an increment of is flammable. The gist on to it is that the RTG makes sh! t load of keennecs. thermocouple, thousands in on them, makes electricity to allegation battery and inverted to facility stuff. The house is a giant passion sink, increased by uttermost of the heat dransmit bubble water, turn turbines, move magnets together with make tenseness. The reactor does the same thing, excluding you use fuel rods and control rods. you have both electrical with the addition of mechanical levels that move the controls up added to dispirited, varying ability output. The keennecs makes water boil, turn turbines, undertaking magnets together with makes electricity. You can run it all the period or turn it dransmit or off like a generator. Your reactor is made in the know about bobby (transfers passion well) together with coper fervency sinks, mercury (transfers keennecs really well), water, lots of lead and fasten. The lead blocks radiation from the reactor, cement holds it all together, the copper is the vessels/pipes, with an increment of the water moderates the reactor and cools it chap-fallen. The RTG don't have a meltdown problem. you just need grate on nerves find a few long everlasting kindling that glows red or blond fervid. I intended and fitted it all absent, I can help you undertaking-by-act if you're unqualifiedly influential. But burn the midnight oil up devise how these shit operate first.

Tonganoxie

In which country do you live???Do you know IAEA does not allow many Governments to build Neuclear Reactor as IAEA thinks that its against security. Who would allow YOU???

Hamden

Somewhat surprisingly (to me anyway) americium (the stuff used in some smoke detectors) is fissile. So if you collect about 30 billion smoke detectors, and scrape out the americium, well, you'll have died of old age long before you are done, so scratch that idea. "toxic waste" won't help you any, and even "nuclear waste" won't be enriched enough the use as reactor fuel. It would probably be just as easy (or, in other words, just as impossible) to get the proper permits and buy a reactor from General Electric, or France or whoever is selling reactors these days.

Quincy

The US military has portable nuclear generating stations since the mid-1960s. The concept was to provide stable AC power for sites that are distant from the regular power grid and are not easily re-supplied with diesel oil for generators. They were deployed in Vietnam, but then the other problem came up. Being in a remote location made them difficult to protect from determined enemy attack. duh. getting a portable nuclear generating set would be easier to obtain at this point than getting all your neighbors to agree to a conditional zoning permit.

Sodium metal could not be directly irradiated in a nuclear reactor to produce radioactive material because?

Boutte

a) It does not become radioactive; b) It is highly reactive solid; c) It oxidises at the temperature of the reactor; d) It is in a liquid state. it's a radiochem question, anyone have any ideas?

Oxford

At the risk of exposing my ignorance, it seems to me that Na-23 would absorb neutrons to form Na-24, which is a 15-hour beta-minus emitter.

Lansdale

b) It is highly reactive solidbecause a and d are not true and c needs more information.

Metamora

The answer is a), because all of the isotopes of sodium are stable. Or, another way to say it is that none of the isotopes of sodium are radioactive.

My daughter wants to move back to LA with my irresponsible ex wife?

I'm a father of 3, 2 girls and a boy.My oldest daughter is 15 years old and has made it her personal mission to get back to Los Angeles. She was born there but we moved to Michigan when she was 4, and starting at age 7 or 8 she began wanting to go back.We visit my parents who still live there every Christmas, so she's had plenty of time to get to know the city. She's also got a killer memory, and remember living there as a little girl.I thought it would go away, like most childhood phases, but she's well into her teens and it's only getting worse. My ex has been thinking about moving back, and of course my daughter wants to come along, but there's no way legally for her to do this after what we both signed.I refuse to allow it because my ex can barely support herself here in MI, let alone herself and a child in LA.My ex also totalled my SUV last year because she was drunk with my daughter in the car (no drinking problem, it was an isolated incident), and has been trying to "win her back" ever since. She has no control over her, lets her say and do whatever she wants. But my daughter is absolutely miserable here. She constantly complains of being cold, and her hands are ice cold literally all winter. She gets straight A's, and could get into UCLA or USC in a few years (she's a sophomore). But do I just let her suffer for 2.5 years? She says I'm being selfish, to keep her here when I know she hates it, but I can't let her running around in LA with her mother, who she ignores.Moving there wiht them isn't an option either, as I have a great job that I love here. And my other 2 children are happy here, I can't uproot the whole family just for my oldest.Tips please?

My 15 year old is obsessed with Los Angeles?

the ones I'm thinking about applying to are Brown(top choice), Duke, Northwestern, NYU, Fordham, UC berkeley, UCLA, UC santa cruz and UC santa barbara.I'm still a junior and I plan on graduating with an IB diploma.GPA(weighted/unweighted):4.2/3.65SAT/ACT:2050/31Extracurriculars:2 years of JV soccer, now apart of varsity soccervice president and co founder of breakdance clubclub secretary of key club for three yearsmember of NHS for three yearsbeen in leadership for two years, planning on threeI have played guitar for four yearsI don't really have much community service hours besides 150 hours from camp because most of my time is spent helping my parents out at their farm. Also during the summers when my parents relatives/friends come from thailand or laos to work, I spend my time teaching them english.what other colleges should I apply too? and what do i need to improve so that i could get accepted into these schools, specifically Brown.FYI I am also a california resident and the youngest child of asian immigrants.sorry weighted gpa is actually 4.1

would i be able to get into these colleges?

I live in Connecticut and searching for a great UC school for sports medicine. My goal is to become a personal or athletic trainer.Which UC school would you recommend? I just visited UCLA and love the campus.

What UC schools have sports medicine undergraduate degrees.I am really interested in UCLA?

I got rejected from UCLA (which makes me incredibly depressed) so I'm going to UCI instead......I read all of my friends' fb status updates about how they got into UCLA while I got rejected from it and it just makes me feel so stupid -- I feel like crying.Even though UCLA could only accept 5300 of its applicants out of the 61000 that applied, I feel like a complete idiot....Do you know if UC Irvine is still a good school? I am attending Wilson High in Long Beach, Ca.That's funny...I'm entering UCI as a Biological Sciences major too!! Lol

Is UC Irvine still a good school?

I really want to learn ballet, but im afraid to ask my Mum, i have been in softball for 3 years now, i have played on All-stars and all that crap.My Mum is so proud of me, i just want to do something else for a change.Im afraid to ask because i dont want to break her heart, She played for many years and wants me to get into UCLA from softball,(Thats a big accomplishment for my family) and as far as i know they dont have a Ballet department....Yea......Help? Also, i can throw 112 feet so i have a good arm according to many of past coaches (Im only 12 using friends account) And a Girl......Laters...

How can i ask for Ballet lessons without breaking my Mums Heart?

I am 15 and 5 ft 4 but hasn't started to really grow yet.I'll end up to be around 5'11 or 6ft or 6'1 at the most.I live in Australia and my plan is to go and play for a good uni or college in America like UCLA or Kentucky etc.i also get good grades and average an Ain the morning i wake up at and do some running and cross training, agility work, defensive footwork, and dribbling practice. After school around 5, i go to the courts and shoot around and work on lay ups and that for around 2 to 3 or even 4 hours, when i get back home i do push up and curl and calf raises and etc to help me get stronger.I have a really good basketball iq and play really good offensive basketball.I have great dribbling and can run a team.My shooting is pretty good but i still need to work on it more.My driving game is really good i can put up floaters or finish strong at the basket.I am really really fast.I can jump but i will never be able to out jump those super athletic doods. What are some advices on going to college and how to get into the nba and what are my chances.

what are my chances of getting in the NBA I'm turning 15 in October?

Soon after I turned in my application, my mother's dad passed away in early December.I was as distraught as my mother, and we had to go to England for the two week break during Christmas in order to attend the funeral.Would this be considered good enough for an appeal to UCLA? I don't know how I was rejected, as I perfectly matched the UCLA admitted freshman profile.

I got rejected from UCLA?

i was wondering if anyone had any good college suggestions: i'm only a sophomore now but i expect to have a 4.3-4.6 gpa and an sat score of at least 2000i want a medium-big schoollots of school spiriteither east coast (but not south) or midwest or californiareally good academicsmix of great academics and funsome i have seen that fit these sort of were university of virginia, northwestern, university of michigan, ucla

Can I get accepted to UCLA?

I'm a sophomore.I have a GPA in the mid-low 3's, but it's improving.I'm taking 2 AP courses next year and I lower level course.Ideally I want to get into a California state school.I live in MA but my father lives down there. What are my chances of getting into UCSB, UCSB, UCLA or any of thosewhich are harder to get in to? WHat can I do to increase my chances? Thank you!
