Is it the state right of states like Georgia to ban illegals from going to college in their state?

A father stabbed his three young boys and himself multiple times and then tried to blame the crimes on the boyfriend of the children's mother, Gwinnett County police said Saturday. Two of the boys, 3-year-old Bradley Garcia and 1-year-old Edward Garcia, were found Wednesday evening in the basement apartment of a home near Lawrenceville.Bradley's twin brother, Joshua, remained in critical condition Saturday.Elvis Noe-Garcia, 23, was arrested Saturday morning and faces two counts of murder and an aggravated assault charge in connection with the violent crimes. He is being held without bond following a first court appearance Saturday night.Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl.Jake Smith said Noe-Garcia has been uncooperative with investigators.Noe-Garcia's arrest was an odd twist in the aftermath of the crimes, which shocked a quiet neighborhood off Scenic Highway.Noe-Garcia initially told police he and the children had been stabbed by 28-year-old Antonio Cardenas-Rico, the current boyfriend of the boys' mother. On Feb.2, Noe-Garcia had approached Gwinnett County police and filed a complaint that indicated Cardenas-Rico had threatened his life.Wednesday evening, Noe-Garcia stabbed himself to make himself appear as a victim."The whole story involving the involvement of Cardenas-Rico was entirely fabricated," Smith said Saturday.http://www.ajc.com/news/gwinnett/father-charged-with-murder-836349.html

What do you think about this Father charged with murder in boys' deaths?

A Republican lawmaker this week added to the immigration-related legislation now before Georgia's General Assembly when he filed a bill aimed at blocking illegal immigrants from collecting unemployment benefits here.Sen.Bill Heath’s legislation prohibits noncitizens from collecting the benefits unless they were legally admitted to this country for permanent residence at the time of their work, legally present for the purposes of their jobs or were permanently residing in the United States “under the color of law” at the time of their employment.Senate Bill 65 also says noncitizens can’t get the benefits unless they are legally present here at the time of the payments.Heath, a Republican from Bremen, declined to comment for this article. But a Senate spokesman said Heath would e-mail a statement about his bill to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Last month, Heath filed Senate Bill 7, which would prohibit people from collecting wage loss and medical benefits unless they were in the country legally at the time of their injury.State legislators are considering several other bills that would crack down on illegal immigration in Georgia, including Senate Bill 40 and House Bill 87.http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/bill-would-halt-jobless-834152.html

How come illegal aliens are collecting at the expense of America taxpayer unemployment benefits?

Two weeks ago, or so, the TSA made a curious announcement that puzzled a lot of people. They announced that they were not allowing any more airports to join a program that allowed them to use private screeners instead of TSA employees.http://articles.cnn.com/2011-01-29/travel/tsa.private_1_tsa-government-screeners-screening-program?_s=PM:TRAVEL (excerpts below):A program that allows airports to replace government screeners with private screeners is being brought to a standstill, just a month after the Transportation Security Administration said it was "neutral" on the program.TSA chief John Pistole said Friday he has decided not to expand the program beyond the current 16 airports, saying he does not see any advantage to it.Though little known, the Screening Partnership Program allowed airports to replace government screeners with private contractors who wear TSA-like uniforms, meet TSA standards and work under TSA oversight.Among the airports that have "opted out" of government screening are San Francisco and Kansas City. However, NOW we know why they canceled the program. You see, late last week the head of the TSA announced that he was giving limited bargaining rights to TSA screeners. That's right, TSA screeners will be allowed to unionize.http://blogs.ajc.com/jamie-dupree-washington-insider/2011/02/04/tsa-okays-limited-collective-bargaining/Unionized employees are LESS responsive to public outcry and opposition...They're protected. And the folks at TSA knew that if they unionized the screeners, airports across the country would want to join that little program and privatize their screeners.Dealing with a private security company is FAR preferable to dealing with a government union, don't you think? Does anybody out there think that unionizing TSA screeners will make air travel safer? Does anybody think it will make moving through airport security checkpoints easier and more pleasant?

http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/emory-regrets-slavery-ties-827234.htmlI'm sure many historically white institutions did.I commend Emory for at least bringing it to the forefront and not trying to revise their own history.History revision is the new trend among conservatives.I'm glad they did follow suit.Newt Gingrich is an illustrious alumnus of the school.didn't follow suit, not "did" ...typoYo que tu: Yeah Newt Gingrich is an alumnus fail on Emory's part.

Should we be surprised that the founders of Emory University owned slaves?

LOL Obama wants to raise it so bad he's paying Bernanke to be his parrot of warnings! Beyond a certain point … the United States would be forced into a position of defaulting on its debt. And the implications of that on our financial system, our fiscal policy and our economy would be catastrophichttp://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/2011/02/04/bernanke-refusing-to-raise-debt-ceiling-courts-catastrophe/?cxntfid=blogs_jay_bookman_blog

If the GOP refusing to raise the debt ceiling wasn't a possibility then why is Obama warning against it?

Friday’s legislative hearing comes two days after the Mexican ambassador to the United States said some of Georgia’s legislation targeting illegal immigration is “poisoning” the relationship between the two countries.Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan suggested such bills also could produce unintended consequences, including racial profiling, human rights violations and damage to the economy.Golick blasted Sarukhan’s comments in a prepared statement sent to reporters Thursday.“The arrogance displayed by the Mexican government is absolutely breathtaking,” Golick said.“The Mexican government has inappropriately injected itself into a debate where it has no role, and its suggestion that we are wrong to seek to enforce our laws is an insult to every law-abiding citizen of Georgia.”http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/aclu-threatens-to-sue-827784.html

What do you think Mexican ambassador complains about racial profiling & human rights violations in U.S.?

The fiscally conservative hawks you elected to cut down on the huge amount of wasteful government spending managed to cut - get ready - $35 billion! Sounds like a lot...though it's only 2% of the budget.Do you still feel like you took your country back, or is this is a disappointment? Check the math here (or Google it yourself if you're worried my source is Evil Liberal Media.Be sure to deduct the cuts Obama already proposed before the elections.):http://blogs.ajc.com/jamie-dupree-washington-insider/2011/02/04/35-billion-in-cuts/

TEA Partiers, did you take your country back?

I fully support it.We need one in Florida.http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/court-challenge-predicted-for-816347.html

What do you think about an Arizona style illegal alien law coming to Georgia?

In Georgia they have an EOCT (end of course test) that counts for 15% of a student's final grade.I was reading the AJC blogs and I came across this information the Georgia department of education website. These Spring 2010 cut score percentages are approximate(within 1% based on the version of the test).Meets (passing – translates to 70): Geometry 52%; Math I 50%; Math II 43%; US History 54%; Economics 50%;Physical Science 43%; Biology 49%; 9th Lit 56%; American Lit 50%.Exceeds (translates to 90): Geometry 69%; Math I 78%;Math II 72%; US History 75%; Economics 71%; Physical Science 81% A LOT of kids fail these test, even GIFTED kids.So basically even if you fail the test you can still get a 70 and even if you get a C on the test you can still get an A.The sad part about it is that a lot of people make 60s on the test which means they got less that 40% of the test correct. What is the point of these test besides deciding who gets money from the feds based on AYP scores from NCLB?

What is the point of all this standardized testing?

An Alpharetta immigration attorney is facing federal fraud charges that could land him in prison for decades.Parmesh N.Dixit, 40, was arraigned Tuesday on 28 counts of visa fraud, a count of conspiracy and 42 counts of alien harboring for the purpose of private financial gain, according to the U.S.Attorney's Office in Atlanta.Dixit lied about his client's qualifications to obtain work visas for them over a 3-year period ending in July 2008, U.S.Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said."This immigration attorney allegedly used his knowledge of the United States' visa programs to fraudulently manipulate the system for dozens of clients."Dixit allegedly charged his clients higher than normal fees, telling them he could get them unmerited "green cards" that would give them resident alien status. He was arraigned before U.S.Magistrate Judge Russell G.Vineyard, and released on a $50,000 secured bond.He also was ordered to surrender his U.S.and U.K.passports.Dixit faces a fine of up to a quarter of a million dollars on each count, and up to a decade in prison on each count except the conspiracy charge, which calls for a maximum of five years in prison.http://www.ajc.com/news/north-fulton/alpharetta-immigration-attorney-accused-815691.html
