Operation War Diary wins Best of the Web Award

Operation War Diary - a solution project in our First World War 100 order of exercise - won an award at Museums and the Web, a greater annual conference for museums and technology. The colloquy took place last week in Baltimore, USA, whither the project won in the inquiry/collections online category.

Since the throw of the project over 10,000 canaille across the globe have volunteered to affix names, places and other details in our First World War one diaries. With over 200 diaries even now tagged and verified, this innovative crowdsourcing throw goes one step further than traditionary transcription by using the data to digitally map and analyse patterns and trends in the unit war diaries, offering new perspectives ward the First World War.

Operation War Diary is a collaboration betwixt The National Archives, Imperial War Museums and Zooniverse, and is sub-division of First World War 100, our centenary programme of events and digitisation releases. This reinvigorated digital platform has been created to clew people through the vast collection of historic records, correspondence, wills, maps, photographs, illustrations and artworks held by The National Archives.
