Launch of online global chart of the First World War

To heed the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, we are launching a novel interactive online map: First World War: A global inspect. Using official records of the First World War from our pile, the map shows the global impression of the conflict.

You can notice countries, territories and empires as they were for the period of wartime alongside a map of the benefaction day for comparison. This first excuse focuses on the involvement of countries and territories from from one side of to the other the British Empire during wartime. For reaped ground of these, you can read respecting key events, historical figures and less known stories from the war. There are in like manner images and links to our records held hither at The National Archives.

Over the nearest four years, the map will have ing expanded to include Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, Africa and Asia. When complete it will offer a truly global explore of the First World War.

First World War: A global witness is part of The National Archives' centenary programme - First World War 100 - which spans a five-year period from June 2014 to June 2019.
